Overview

As of March 2025, domainTracker is tracking 335,113,936 domain names across all top-level domains. This represents a year-over-year growth of 1.83%. The split between generic top-level domains (gTLDs) and country-code top-level domains (ccTLDs) is 235,951,561 and 99,162,375 respectively. gTLDs grew 1.65% year-over-year, while ccTLDs saw a 2.26% increase.

Fastest Growth & Biggest Movers

Several gTLDs experienced substantial percentage growth in March. .loan led with a year-over-year increase of 1090.7%, reaching a total of 89,734 registrations. .xin followed with 565.8% growth, totaling 86,801 domains. .rest increased by 539.5% to 120,122, .gdn by 475.4% to 72,594, .uno by 177.6% to 57,214 and .bid by 143.3% to 60,446.

However, focusing solely on percentage gains can be misleading. In terms of absolute gains, .xyz saw the largest increase with 998,746 new registrations, reaching a total of 4,775,977. .shop added 968,889 domains, bringing its total to 3,894,303. .cn increased by 690,000 to 20,820,000, .top by 622,404 to 3,735,140 and .us by 483,357 to 2,536,366.

Notable Declines

Not all TLDs experienced growth. .cfd saw the most significant percentage decline, falling by 71% to 329,740 registrations. .bio decreased by 39.9% to 50,033, .monster by 33.9% to 55,393, .win by 16% to 82,521, .xn--ses554g by 10.1% to 84,604 and .rocks by 7.8% to 62,072.

Looking at absolute losses, .com experienced the largest decrease, shedding 2,388,856 registrations to 160,949,920. .net lost 450,630 domains, ending the month at 12,896,181. .nl decreased by 129,519 to 6,158,303 and .de by 93,234 to 17,595,165.

Registrar Landscape

Across all tracked TLDs, registrars collectively manage 216,861,100 domains. GoDaddy remains the market leader with a 27.9% share, managing 60,598,913 registrations, a year-over-year change of -0.3% (-177,617 domains). Namecheap demonstrated the most significant growth, increasing its share to 7.7% (16,715,630 registrations), a year-over-year increase of 45.3% (5,211,969 domains). Tucows (Enom/OpenSRS/Ascio/Hover) holds a 6.3% share (13,759,126 domains), up 4.3% (573,408 domains). Squarespace / Google accounts for 4.7% (10,229,375 domains), increasing by 5.8% (559,718 domains).

Market Activity

March saw 6,911,606 new domain creations and 11,935,763 renewals. 5,681,195 domains were deleted, and 633,263 were transferred between registrars. This resulted in a net addition of 1,230,411 domains, indicating continued, albeit moderate, growth in the domain name system.

Country-Code Movers & New Arrivals

Among ccTLDs, .ai experienced significant growth, increasing by 69% to 598,007 registrations. .id grew by 32.6% to 1,204,884, and .us by 23.5% to 2,536,366. Conversely, .nu decreased by 5.6% to 217,845, .ua by 3.5% to 447,337 and .dk by 2.5% to 1,313,901. No new TLDs were added to the tracked list in March.
