Overview

As of July 2025, there were 339,774,804 domain names registered across all tracked Top-Level Domains. This represents a year-over-year growth rate of 3.34%. The domain name landscape is split between generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs) and country-code Top-Level Domains (ccTLDs), accounting for 240,399,556 and 99,375,248 registrations respectively.

Fastest Growth & Biggest Movers

The fastest percentage growth among gTLDs was observed in .xyz, increasing by 37.5%. .loan saw the highest percentage gain, with a growth rate of 1406.5%. However, focusing solely on percentage growth can be misleading. In terms of absolute volume gains, .top experienced the largest increase, adding 1,971,218 registrations year-over-year, followed by .xyz with 1,549,528, and .cn with 1,290,000 new registrations. These figures highlight the difference between rapidly expanding smaller TLDs and substantial growth within established domains.

Notable Declines

Several TLDs experienced declines in registrations. .cfd showed the largest percentage decrease among gTLDs, falling by 52.3%. .bond experienced a significant decline of 53.3%. In absolute terms, .cfd lost 504,884 registrations, while .net saw a decrease of 394,024. .nl also experienced a notable reduction in registrations, with a loss of 126,380.

Registrar Landscape

Collectively, tracked registrars account for 192,337,290 registrations. GoDaddy maintains the largest market share at 30.1%, with a total of 57,842,515 registrations. Namecheap holds the second-largest share at 6.9%, totaling 13,308,649 registrations. Tucows (Enom/OpenSRS/Ascio/Hover) accounts for 6.6% of the market with 12,640,069 registrations. Significant year-over-year changes in registrar portfolios are often linked to bulk domain migrations. Namecheap was the top-gaining registrar, increasing registrations by 12.8% (1,511,330 registrations), while GoDaddy experienced a decrease of 3.1% (-1,860,284 registrations).

Market Activity

Domain name activity in July 2025 indicates a generally healthy market. There were 7,251,728 new domain registrations (creates) compared to 6,102,410 deletions, resulting in a net addition of 1,149,318 domains. Renewals accounted for 10,845,487 registrations, while 520,549 domains were transferred between registrars. The positive net adds suggest continued demand for domain names.

Country-Code Movers & Milestones

Among ccTLDs, .ai demonstrated substantial growth, increasing by 69%. .id also showed strong performance, with a 36.8% increase. Conversely, .nu experienced a 9% decrease, and .dk and .se saw declines of 3% and 2.7% respectively. No new TLDs were launched in July 2025. The .pro TLD surpassed 1,000,000 registrations, reaching a total of 1,003,838, and .top exceeded 5,000,000 registrations, reaching 5,187,040.
