As of October 2025, the total number of domain names registered across all tracked Top-Level Domains reached 347,272,240, a year-over-year increase of 5.34%. This figure is comprised of 247,847,410 generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs) and 99,424,830 country-code Top-Level Domains (ccTLDs).
Fastest Growth & Biggest Movers
The fastest-growing gTLD in October was .xyz, with a year-over-year increase of 74.9%. .top followed with 85.7% growth. However, evaluating absolute gains reveals a different picture. .com experienced the largest absolute increase, adding 3,018,405 registrations year-over-year, while .xyz added 3,169,209. It is important to note the difference between percentage and absolute growth when assessing market trends.
Notable Declines
Several gTLDs experienced declines in registration numbers. .lol saw the largest percentage decrease, falling by 61.4% year-over-year. .bond registered a 51.7% decrease. In terms of absolute losses, .lol lost 432,318 registrations, and .bond lost 379,233. .net also experienced a decline, losing 315,286 registrations, representing a 2.4% decrease.
Registrar Landscape
The registrar market remains concentrated. GoDaddy holds the largest share with 57,588,789 registrations, representing 29.6% of the total. Namecheap is the second-largest registrar with 13,731,706 registrations, a 7.1% share. Tucows (Enom/OpenSRS/Ascio/Hover) holds 6.2% of the market. Registrar data is considered reliable. Namecheap was the top-gaining registrar, increasing its portfolio by 13.6% (1,649,139 registrations), while GoDaddy experienced the largest decline, losing 2.6% of its portfolio (1,545,998 registrations). Large shifts in registrar portfolios can often be attributed to bulk domain migrations.
Market Activity
Domain name activity in October indicates a healthy market. There were 8,050,874 new registrations (creates) and 10,871,350 renewals. 594,372 domain names were deleted, and 566,426 were transferred between registrars.
